Hotel Gym Review: Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area
Hotel: Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista - Disney Springs Area
Location: 1751 Hotel Plaza Blvd, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830
I’ll be on the road again regularly for the next few months. I hope to do better with the updates related to my Hotel Gym Reviews. This past week I was in Orlando for a two-nights at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista. The event I attended was awesome! Of course, I was able to work out both mornings and provide a review of the gym below. The hotel was great, and the staff were incredibly hospitable. I am hard to please when it comes to fitness facilities and my scores reflect this. It is with gratitude that I am healthy enough to be able to train and provide this feedback. With that in mind, I hope you enjoy the review below.
Overall Assessment: Total Score: 19 out of 30
Accessibility: 5
Facility Size: 4
Cleanliness: 3
Equipment: 2
Environment: 3
Nutrition: 2
Grading System (my own): 1 = Unacceptable, 2 = Marginal, 3 = Acceptable, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Accessibility:
The gym was located right near a bank of elevators and was open 24 x 7 x 365.
Facility Size:
The facility was moderate sized. For a resort it seemed a little small. The equipment in the facility fit well and they attempted to use all available space. There was a restroom immediately accessible from the workout area.
Cleanliness:
I was pleased to find gym wipes in the facility so kudos to the management for this. The equipment was generally clean and well maintained. Towels are available for facility users. I only encountered two or three others I the gym while I was there (my usual hours of 430 – 530 am tend to be quiet ones). The benches were a little dirty but nothing that some elbow grease and a wipe could not address.
Equipment:
Nice mix of equipment for the space available. Treadmills, ellipticals, cycles, free weights, kettlebells, exercise balls, a few weight machines and a LifeFitness multi-gym. More than adequate for a full body workout. I was surprised that the padding and spring on the treadmill was still adequate to support some interval training. My photos aren’t great; not certain if it was the photographer or not (lol! Of course, it was me!).
Environment:
Lighting – good. There was a large bank of windows that allowed in the ambient light which was great as the sun started to rise each morning.
Temperature – I was a little worried when I saw big blowers in the ceiling but the temperature in the fitness facility was perfect for a workout. Not too hot and not too cold.
Cleanliness – overall the facility was pretty clean. The floors were not dirty. The equipment was reasonably clean for a public gym. In fact, it was cleaner than some of the facilities I frequent at home. I cringe whenever I encounter a gym where there are no gym wipes but that was not the case here.
Nutrition:
There was a water cooler in the fitness area but that was it. I think the days are past when hotels would provide fruit or infused water in the facility. It’s expensive and I am certain that part of the change is an effort to reduce food waste, which I applaud. The Starbucks in the hotel was open 24 x 7 so it was easy to get water, coffee, fruit or other snacks if needed.
