Hotel Gym Review: AC Hotel Downtown Madison

Hotel: AC Hotel Downtown Madison

Location: One North Webster Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53703 USA

I always worry about writing a review for a hotel where I will be returning soon. The good thing is that it is an opportunity to check and see if any of the opportunities identified have been actioned. Overall, my stay at the AC Hotel in Downtown Madison was awesome. The staff was amazing. The hotel room was great (well….the bed was a little hard but that is for another review). The hotel is within walking distance to a grocery store, so I was able to obtain some basic supplies for meals. I was able to meet my health and wellness goals (one upper body and one lower body workout) but there is opportunity to improve the experience for others.

Overall Assessment: Total Score: 16 out of 30

  • Accessibility: 3

  • Facility Size: 2

  • Cleanliness: 3

  • Equipment: 3

  • Environment: 2

  • Nutrition: 3

Grading System (my own 😊) 1 = Unacceptable, 2 = Marginal, 3 = Acceptable, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Accessibility:

The hotel fitness center is on the 9th floor. It is open 24 x 7 x 365. The center overlooks the Capitol building and provides a beautiful view in the early morning hours.

Facility Size:

As you can see from the photos, the fitness center is on the smaller side but very well equipped. It felt a little tight with 3 people in the free weight area but fortunately with the hours I train there was never more than 4 or 5 people there at one time.

Cleanliness:

The hotel provides Sani-Wipes (thank you!) to wipe down the equipment and towels for personal hygiene.

Equipment:

The facility was well equipped with the full line of Matrix equipment. The treadmills (I only used 2) were lacking in cushioning which made my morning jog a little tough on the joints. I don’t know if this was from overuse or the model of the treadmill. The free weights, bench, exercise balls and multi-purpose unit are always a plus in any hotel fitness center. With just those three pieces of equipment I can train any body part. Given the space limitations there was not an option to put any other equipment in the facility.

Environment:

The temperature and lighting were great! From someone who is always cold the fitness center was perfect for training.

Nutrition:

No food in the gym but there was a water bottle filling station for which I give the hotel A+ for environmental friendliness.
